P&J has provided debris management services since the 1970's. Our first extremely large scale debris management tasking was in 1992 following Hurricane Andrew in Dade County, Florida. Under contract to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in less than 90 days we moved over 4,000,000 cubic yards of debris, employed over 1,650 people, contracted over 750 dump trucks, and worked in excess of 700,000 man-hours. We moved over one-third of the total debris removed by the six Corps contractors working on this effort and earned an Outstanding Performance Evaluation for our work. Since 1992, P&J has been involved in debris management following every major disaster in the U.S., as well as numerous smaller projects, including hurricanes, ice storms, rock slides, and floods.
We are very experienced in dealing with complex debris streams. Following the World Trade Center terrorist attack in 2001, P&J was tasked with management of the Forensic Recovery Operation at Staten Island Landfill where debris from Ground Zero was taken. Approximately 1,462,000 tons of debris were received and processed, over 1.7 million man-hours were worked, over 55,000 discrete pieces of evidence were recovered and 239 victims were positively identified. In addition to awards from the FBI, NYPD, and Detective Bureau of the NYPD, we were named Civil Works Contractor of the Year by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
In the aftermath of 2005 Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in and around New Orleans, P&J was contracted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Debris included vegetative, C&D, white goods, small motorized equipment, e-waste, asbestos containing materials (ACM), and household hazardous waste (HHW). P&J kept the debris stream highly segregated to keep ineligible debris out of landfills and to maximize recycling efforts. Over 10.7 million cubic yards of debris were removed with over 10 millon man-hours worked.
P&J's decades of debris management experience, our proven expertise in dealing with complex debris streams, and our rapid response and completion make us the right choice for projects requiring professional debris management services.
