The Choctaw Point Complex Mobile Container Terminal project is a multi-year $300 million expansion of the Alabama State Port Authority dock facilities in Mobile, Alabama to provide terminal customers with a cost-effective alternative shipping route to Southeast and Midwest markets. Phillips & Jordan completed four individual projects associated with the Choctaw Point Complex: Choctaw Point Container Terminal Land Reclamation and Stabilization, Choctaw Point Container Terminal Phase 1B Land Reclamation and Stabilization, Choctaw Point Container Terminal Wetland Mitigation, and Garrows Bend Intermodal Container Transfer Facility Land Reclamation and Diversion Drain.
Work scope elements completed by Phillips & Jordan for the individual projects included clearing and grubbing, debris removal, underwater backfill placement, stabilization of soils and clays involving installation of wick drains and stone material columns reaching depths of 75 feet, site excavation and fill placement, shaping and grading to create high quality tidal marsh to counterbalance wetlands impacted by construction, and construction of a levee to contain dredge spoils from the Mobile Ship Channel including placement of Rip/Rap to provide long term stability.
