JOHN SEVIER FOSSIL PLANT DRY FLY ASH STACK FINAL CLOSURE
Location: Rogersville, Tennessee
Completion Date: Ongoing Project
Phillips & Jordan Role: Prime Contractor
Phillips & Jordan was contracted to complete the grading and installation of a cap and flexible membrane liner system for the final closure of the dry fly ash stack located at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) John Sevier Fossil Plant. The project was divided into three stages which gave TVA the option to award each stage to a separate contractor. However due to superior performance Phillips & Jordan was awarded a contract for all three stages (Stages 1 and 2 have been completed and Stage 3 activities are currently being performed). Crews capped a total of 40 acres to complete Stage 1 in 2013 and Stage 2 in 2014. Stage 3 is currently underway and will conclude the project with the closure of 42 total acres.
Major items of work completed to date by Phillips & Jordan for this project include installation of liner and geocomposite, installation of geotextile fabric, placement of 24 inch thick cap cover soil and subgrade fill material, installation of 6 inch high density polyethylene pipe, spreading of access road stone, and sodding of 88 acres. A workforce comprised of over 30 personnel and 40 pieces of equipment perform onsite project activities on a daily basis.
